Welcome to the NIPFP Library

The NIPFP library has grown to be a leading research and reference library in the area of public finance in Asia. The focus is on the following core areas:
- Public finance;
- Economic theory and methodology;
- Macro and micro economics;
- Industry studies;
- New institutional economics;
- Planning and development economics;
- Indian economy;
- Political economy;
- Environmental and natural resource economics;
- Urban economics and urban finance;
- Health economics.
The library holds membership of the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD) and Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), through International Monetary Fund (IMF) Depository Programme for enriching the Public Finance collection at the international level.
Equipped with modern facilities, the library offers a conducive environment to researchers, and scholars from India and abroad who visit for reference from time to time. The library operations are largely automated through LIBSYS and WINISIS softwares. It subscribes to 248 international journals, maintaining a collection of 78,000 documents including books, articles, journal holdings, budget documents, and finance accounts accessible through the Institute’s Local Area Network (LAN). It has networking arrangement with various institutions for sharing of resources.
Classification System
DDC (21st edition) classification is adopted for the processing of documents. All the documents have been brought under computerised bibliographic control using LIBSYS software. Online Public Access Catalogue(OPAC) search is provided to readers. Searches can be made by author, title, subject, class number, publisher or words in title and boolean search. The details of books and documents can be also be accessed through card catalogue. The newly accessioned books and working papers are displayed on a weekly basis. The books displayed at the counter can be borrowed after the display date.

Weekdays 9.00 am - 5.30 pm (Thursday upto 8.00 pm)
Saturday 9.30 am - 2.00 pm
The Library remains closed on all National holidays and other institutional holidays declared at the beginning of every year.
